Sunday Rewind: Going from 0 to 1 in product discovery by Merci Grace
This week’s Sunday Rewind is a 2023 #mtpcon San Francisco talk from Merci Grace, Slack’s former Head of Growth, which offers an iterative framework to plan and execute the product discovery phase that provides value to your customer.
In Merci’s framework you:-
Generate ideas
Merci says to “look out for the ideas that your consumers can use on their own and would also make a direct payment in exchange for your services.”
Clarify ideas
Choose the ideas you believe have the growth potential, start specs and landing pages.
Test your concept
Connect with potential customers, pitch your idea and schedule a meeting. Keep interview questions open-ended, and if you think the potential customer is a good candidate, show them your landing pages
A “willingness to pay” interview
Get a follow-up discussion to rank pain points and use these to help discover the price per unit of your product. For each pain point, ask questions like, based on an estimated price, what feels too cheap and what’s acceptable?
