SUNDAY REWIND: How do you build a successful product team?

Of course there are a huge number of factors to take into account when trying to build a successful product team. Hiring the right people, setting them up for success by empowering them and creating psychological safety, consistent quality communication and transparency, providing guidance, and facilitating growth and development are all of utmost importance. Our report takes an in-depth look at each of these areas and offers lots of advice and anecdotes to learn from.

The main takeaways from the report are shown below:-

Hire the right people. Assess against a list of competencies or principles so that you can build data to understand who is best for the role.

Onboard people with care. Set out initial expectations and don’t overwhelm new hires. It will pay dividends in terms of staff retention.

Transparency creates trust  — and trust creates transparency.

Have a visible scoreboard — everyone should know what’s being measured and be able to refer to it.

High quality effective communication underpins everything — team motivation, alignment, influence, negotiation, you name it.
