Sunday Rewind: How to navigate tricky work relationships

This week’s Sunday Rewind is a 2022 Leadership Panel session which looks at adapting your communication with business leaders to collaborate effectively.

The panel, comprising Ben Newell (then CPO at Stitch Fix), Hilary Reynolds (VP Product at CBRE), Partho Ghosh (then Senior Director of Product at HootSuite) and Emily Tate (then MD at MTP), look at how transparency and instilling a culture of experimentation can aid business decisions and overall communication and how to cultivate relationships with your team to manage effectively and better understand their take on the product vision.

The panel recommends working out how executives communicate and that you make sure you’re clear about what you need from leadership. It’s also important to know when to back off. Transparency is also key when answering questions and setting expectations but it becomes more difficult to maintain as you work up through the levels of a business. You should also cultivate relationships in order to manage laterally and this takes time, effort, and intention.
