November at ProductTanks: Alignment, ownership, and impact

ProductTanks, created by Mind the Product, are informal meetups that bring local product people together and provide a space to new speakers to share amazing product insights. With over 200 cities hosting ProductTanks globally, in this article we will highlight a few of the past month activities.

November was packed with sharp insights, lively debate, and plenty of connections with 58 ProductTanks from London to Bengaluru, and topics included the evolving relationship between Product Managers and Project Managers, the growing impact of AI on product work, and how teams around the world are redefining what great product practice looks like.

Belfast

One of the organisers, Jonny Black summarised the meetup: "Last night at ProductTank Belfast, we heard a local success story of how Stora have found Product Market Fit from David Hughes, Head of Product. Although they’ve found it, it’s a case of continuing to monitor and adapt as they look to changes in the market, and new customer segments. David also brought enlightenment about working in B2B2C ‘The hardest mode in product’; not only concerned about the business capabilities, but also the focus ‘great design’ being a differentiator for the end customer.

ProductTank Belfast’s own Emma Mulholland presented the Superhuman case study around PMF. She also shared results received from the community about the types of events people wanted. The plan is to run ProductTank Belfast on a monthly cadence, with a mix of Speaker events, Workshops & Socials. Speaking of which, the community on the night voted in favour of a (unfunded) social on Wednesday 17th December, in an informal environment (like a pub) - more details to follow.

This was my first event as a co-organiser of ProductTank Belfast, and to my mind it was a success. There were a lot of new faces, and familiar faces. I’d hoped to have time to catch up with more of you. I hope the regular cadence will help with the feeling of community, our tribe as Emma described it.

Many thanks for the staff at Ormeau Labs for the venue and support. Also a big thank you to Stora for not only sponsoring the event, providing pizza and drinks, but also sharing their story via David.

Join our community on meetup to be kept up to date with future events."

Cardiff

From ProductTank Cardiff page: "What an incredible evening for ProductTank Cardiff #51 at Hodge House! 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our final event of the year.

Massive appreciation to our brilliant speakers and here are some of the top takeaways from the night:

⭐ From James Murray with Is Your Data Ready for an AI Product or Feature?

• Start with a clear problem before you start with AI

• Data quality = Model quality

• 80% of AI work is data prep

• Poor data introduces hidden costs and delays

• Scalable infrastructure and strong governance are essential

⭐ From Morgan Patzelt with Managing Product Burnout

• Burnout comes from broken systems, not long hours

• Misaligned goals and constant interruptions are major triggers

• Good product work is the antidote

• Fixing processes helps the whole team, not just the PM

• Strong fundamentals matter even more as change accelerates

A huge thank you to our host, Future (Gurvinder Sandhu and the entire team), for providing an amazing space, pizza, drinks and being amazing hosts, and to our sponsor, Place. for their continued support of the Cardiff product community throughout 2025.

And to everyone who attended - thank you for your energy, questions, and conversation. ProductTank Cardiff is a community because of you.

That’s a wrap for 2025!

We’ll be back in 2026 with new speakers, new topics, and even more opportunities to learn and connect.

Until then - have a fantastic end to the year from Mind the Product and ProductTank Cardiff Co-organiser Crew - Sophie Davies, Tom Preston, Elliot Gardner, Alex Kavel and Jamie Meredith."

Bengaluru

ProductTank Bengaluru: "🎤 We thought we knew what to expect today. We were wrong—in the best way.

The ideas, the energy, the debates… absolutely unforgettable.

What unfolded in the room today was a blend of sharp insights, meaningful dialogue, and a community that showed up ready to learn, challenge, and inspire.

A huge shoutout to our incredible speakers who made the conversations come alive:

Gaurav Makkar took us Beyond AI PoCs, showing what it takes to move from experiments to meaningful, real-world impact.

Pooja Bhalla inspired us with From Instinct to Insight: The Data Journey in the AI Era, beautifully bridging intuition and intelligence.

Prathiba Venkatesan grounded us with Product Management in the Age of AI & Data, highlighting how the craft is evolving faster than ever.

Amit Godbole got everyone thinking differently with What If Pricing Was Your Best Feature?, reframing how we define value.

A heartfelt thank you to NetApp for hosting us and creating the perfect environment for such dynamic discussions. Your support elevates every gathering.

And of course, to our amazing ProductTank Bengaluru community—you’re the spark behind every moment. Your curiosity, participation, and passion turned this event into something truly memorable.

Thank you for making ProductTank Bengaluru what it is. ❤️"

London

Tony Him wrote: "At last night's ProductTank London event, Marty Cagan and Martin Eriksson discussed the current and future state of Product Management, and the impact of AI.

There's far more use of AI by product managers to automate their workflows than new AI products being built. AI may accelerate and democratise certain elements of the lifecycle, but it's still critical to build products that are viable.

We're in the learning phase, and there's a cost to this. It's part of the hype cycle. Companies feel they can't afford to be left out, but they need to find the right fit for their AI products. This isn't always happening.

The blurring of boundaries between design, product, and engineering makes it more important for product managers to be commercially minded, understanding customer intent and business value.

Product management is about finding the solution that best addresses a problem. AI may allow us to solve problems in different ways, but the fundamentals are the same.

Every company does discovery. Some do it before they build. Some do it afterwards."

Tallinn

ProductTank Tallinn: "In the recent ProductTank Tallinn event, we explored the blurred (and often debated) lines between Product Managers and Project Managers. One thing became clear that the differences between the two roles vary widely from organization to organization, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter who does what, as long as the work gets done.

We talked about:

💡 How each role approaches risk

🎯 The main differences in focus — outcome vs. output, vision vs. execution

🤝 The synergies that make great products and projects possible when both sides work together

🦾 Impact of AI on the role

A huge thank you to our fantastic panelists for sharing their insights and real-world perspectives:

Alexander Taranenko – bringing a view from harware development

Roni Stern – sharing experiences from digital and physical product management

Urmo Keskel and Madis Lempu – who have worn both PM hats in their careers

Anna-Liisa Reinson – offering a broad perspective on how different organizations define these roles

Big thanks to PMania Hub for co-hosting the event with us — if you’re interested in learning more about project management, make sure to follow their community channels!

And of course, thank you Coolbet for hosting us and providing some great gifts for the best questions. The audience favorite: “Whom do developers hate more — Product Managers or Project Managers?”

Looking forward to the next events and more great discussions ahead!"

Porto

ProductTank Porto: "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁! 💥

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for ProductTank Porto — even on a rainy Wednesday 🌧️ You brought the energy, the questions, and the smiles, and made it an absolute blast.

Big thanks to Matt LeMay for challenging us to rethink what impact really means — and for reminding us that as product people, we need the 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, even for things outside our control. It’s easy to stay in the periphery where it feels comfortable… but 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁. ⚡️

And shoutout to our wonderful host Blip.pt for sponsoring the space, drinks, food, and goodies — and for making everyone feel so welcome 🙌"
