SUNDAY REWIND: The Product Decision Stack by Martin Eriksson

This week’s Sunday Rewind takes us to a ProductTank Lagos presentation from Martin Eriksson on his Decision Stack framework.

Martin explains that his Decision Stack framework is about connecting the dots from vision to action. Increasing the quality and velocity of our decision making comes down to answering three questions: what should we do, why are we doing that, and how do we want to do it?

He says that every decision you make at one level inherently shapes the available choices at other levels, helping to constrain your options and minimising the overhead of making the next decisions.  The decision stack offers clear structures for shaping each level of decision you try to make. It facilitates those decisions by offering clear structures for shaping each level of decision that you’re trying to make – understanding the “Why” from the bottom-up, and working out the “How” from the top-down.

Martin then runs through how product vision, principles and strategy work with the framework. He says that open leadership is essential to the framework, and that you should err towards over-communication, and radiate your goals, vision and strategy at every opportunity.
