About this role

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

What You’ll Do:

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Economy Platform - Product Dynamics pod, you will build the systems that let Roblox launch and evolve economic features on top of its virtual products. The pod owns domains such as Limiteds, Timed Options, Trade, Incentives, Bundles, Collections, and Economy admin tooling. You will design, implement, and operate the services that power these features across every Economy product vertical.

Economy Platform's mission is to power the world's largest creator-driven virtual product economy. With over 120 million daily active users (and growing), we are looking for an experienced engineer who is passionate about building scalable, reliable systems that serve creators and users across the Roblox economy. Product Dynamics focuses on unlocking new economic levers on top of unified virtual product concepts and systems, so that new monetization ideas reach users faster.

We build shared, cohesive technical solutions that serve all Economy product verticals by default, so product teams can ship new features without waiting on a central team. That means evolving core concepts such as Bundles, Limiteds, and Trade, and enabling product teams to self-serve incremental changes through design guidance, code review, and agentic workflows. We help creators grow their earnings while scaling Roblox's economy. The team is also accountable for the reliability and performance of the services it owns: meeting SLOs on critical paths, improving operational efficiency, and reducing production issues and customer support tickets related to these systems.

You Will:

  • Design and architect scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems, including microservices, message queuing systems, distributed databases, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Implement high-quality and dependable code with thorough unit and integration tests.
  • Own and evolve backend domains such as Collectibles (Limiteds), Timed Options, Trade, Incentives, Bundles, and Econ admin tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve intricate technical issues within distributed systems.
  • Own SLOs for the services you build, and optimize performance, latency, and throughput on critical paths.
  • Partner with product vertical engineering managers, product managers, and tech leads, translating product requirements into technical contracts and delivering against agreed milestones.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering continuous learning and professional development.
  • Actively participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design sessions, including reviewing changes from product teams contributing to Economy Platform domains.
  • Build reusable, platformized building blocks and tooling that let product teams self-serve, and advocate for best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on distributed systems and product-facing backend services that have measurable user or business impact.
  • A solid understanding of core distributed systems concepts, including consistency models, concurrency control, and fault tolerance, ideally applied to transactional systems such as payments, commerce, or virtual economies.
  • Proficiency in one or more systems programming languages such as C#, Go, Rust, Java, C++, or Python.
  • Strong practical experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm).
  • Experience with message queues and distributed data stores such as Kafka, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, and the ELK stack, and experience owning service SLOs and operational reliability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex challenges.
  • Experience defining technical vision and providing technical leadership, including designing APIs and service contracts that other teams build on.
  • A willingness to embrace new technologies, including AI-assisted and agentic development workflows, and a passion for continuous learning.
