Anupama Garani

Anupama Garani is VP at PIMCO, where she leads enterprise GenAI initiatives with a focus on evaluating and diagnosing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems in production. Her work centers on the hardest part of AI adoption: determining what to test, how to test it, and diagnosing why systems fail when accuracy and trust actually matter, whether the root cause is data quality, retrieval logic, model behavior, or user intent drift. She is the author of the TRUST Framework, a repeatable operating model for evaluating and governing GenAI systems across transparency, reliability, usefulness, security, and testability in regulated environments. Anupama has spoken at conferences and panels including SSON, the American Data Centers & AI Conference, and TMLS, covering topics at the intersection of RAG failure modes, evaluation strategies, and AI governance. She co-authors "AI in Production Field Notes," a newsletter reaching over 9,200 subscribers. She is also a reviewer for IEEE and AAAI conferences and serves as an Ambassador for WiDS, ODSC, and GHC, and as a mentor for Cornell's Break Through Tech. Before PIMCO, she worked on NLP automation at Goldman Sachs. The through-line across her career is making AI decision-grade in environments where mistakes are costly and shortcuts don't survive.
