An internationally recognized speaker and author, his books include The Laws of Simplicity, Creative Code and Redesigning Leadership. John draws on his diverse background as an MIT trained engineer, award-winning designer, and executive leader to help businesses and creatives push the boundaries of innovation in their markets and fields.
John was the recipient of the White House’s National Design Award, the Tribeca Film Festival’s Disruptive Innovation Award for STEM to STEAM, the Blouin Foundation’s Creative Leadership Award, the AIGA Medal, the Raymond Loewy Foundation Prize, the Mainichi Design Prize, the Tokyo Type Director’s Club Prize, and induction into the Art Director’s Club Hall of Fame.

Bernise is co-founder and chief alchemist at Zeroth Labs, a systems mapping startup which blends anthropology, data, design and other strange methods to work with mayors and city councils in (mostly) developing countries to tackle challenges in the urban transition, such as healthcare, sanitation, intergenerational poverty, and others. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Singapore Management University.
Before that she co-founded Syinc, a youth development nonprofit from which Zeroth Labs is a spin-off, drafted policy for UNFCCC climate negotiations, and did her share of corporate slavery in an Asian private equity firm. She is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and researches and speaks on the social and economic implications of increasingly ubiquitous artificial intelligence and the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
