#mtpcon London+EMEA

Hybrid explained

21-22 Oct, In-Person & Online

#mtpcon London + EMEA 2021 will be our first ever hybrid conference and we could not be more excited to bring you this amazing learning experience.

In case you’re new to the hybrid scene, a ‘hybrid’ event is the combination of an in-person experience and a virtual experience. For #mtpcon London+EMEA 2021, you can choose to attend just the digital aspects of the event or mix it up and attend in person too – whatever your choice, we guarantee you’ll come away feeling inspired, motivated, and equipped to build better products!

#mtpcon London+EMEA 2021 day 1

#mtpcon London+EMEA 2021 day 2

Our whole audience will join remotely on day one, and then for day two, we’ll be back at the Barbican Centre in London, presenting incredible product talks IRL to our in-person audience. We’ll also be live-streaming all of the action from this iconic venue to those of you who choose to join remotely. There’ll also be bonus online-only content and hybrid networking features and interactive entertainment.

The honest truth

We want to be honest though, it’s a tricky time to run in-person events and things are changing every day. We’re still working through the challenges of running an in-person event in the current circumstances and working hard to figure out exactly what our #mtpcon London+EMEA attendee experience will be like. We’ll communicate as and when we have updates on the situation but we ask that you be patient with us as we navigate this unusual situation.

We know you’ll have questions, so check out this video message from our Managing Director (and fellow product person) Emily Tate, and take a look at our event FAQs. We’ll continue to communicate more information about the event as soon as we have it.

Hybrid FAQs

What is a ‘hybrid’ event?

In case you’re new to the hybrid scene, a ‘hybrid’ event is the combination of an in-person experience and a virtual experience. For #mtpcon London+EMEA 2021, you can choose to attend just the digital aspects of the event or mix it up and attend in person too – whatever your choice, we guarantee you’ll come away feeling inspired, motivated, and equipped to build better products!

In a nutshell, can you explain the event to me?

#mtpcon London+EMEA will be a two-day hybrid event for product people who want to come together to hone their craft, meet their community, and learn how to build better products.

Day 1 will be fully digital – whether you have a ‘digital-only’ or a ‘hybrid’ ticket, we want to build on the things we’ve learned this year, running impactful online sessions, raising more voices in our community with breakout speakers, Q&A sessions, roundtables, networking, chat, and of course some stellar keynote speakers who might not be able to fly to London. We want to lean into the elements that really make digital events great. This will give everyone the chance to start on the same foot and make sure you are all connected to each other and the event. It’ll be a truly global experience, from the comfort of your home.

Day 2 is when things go fully hybrid – we will design two experiences (one physical and one digital) that centre around the same main stage keynote content happening IRL at the Barbican Centre in London, but also factors in the differences in format (read on for more info).

What does day 2 look like for digital-only ticket holders? How does it look different to in-person?

As with day 1, if you join us remotely for the full two days you can expect to plug into our live event being held at the iconic Barbican Centre in London on day 2. You’ll soak up insights from the live-streamed keynote talks, but it doesn’t stop there. You’ll also get bonus digital-only content including social activities pre and post event. This is likely to be a longer day than the digital events we have been running to accommodate the in-person content but don’t worry, there will be plenty of pitstops so you can keep your attention levels high!

What does day 2 look like for in-person (‘hybrid’) ticket holders? How does it look different to digital-only?

If you are one of a limited audience joining us for our live event at the iconic Barbican Centre in London on day 2, you’ll soak up insights from live keynote talks IRL! It will be a similar format to our previous in-person events, with some networking time in the morning and after the event. We are still working through all of the elements we’ll have in person to make it a safe and comfortable environment – more on that to come as we see how things shape up.

Will I be missing out by not attending the in-person event?

Absolutely not! We’re working very hard to create a hybrid experience that feels exciting and engaging whether you’re in the room, or at home online. In order to do this, the digital and in-person experiences will differ somewhat, but neither will be better than the other.

How will the in-person event be different to the normal London event?

  • Number of attendees: We will be drastically scaling back the number of attendees that we can welcome to the Barbican to ensure there will be enough space to keep some distance. Right now we are looking at around 350 attendees compared to our normal 1800, with the potential to go up to about half our usual numbers if it looks like we could safely do that
  • Talk format: We’ll be sticking with our usual keynote line-up at the in-person event but the number of talks may differ due to restrictions – we’ll update on this as we know more
  • Schedule/Timings: We expect that the day will be slightly shorter than our previous in-person events to cater for our digital audience and any restrictions which are in place at the time
  • Networking/Afterparty: We’d love to run our usual afterparty but we expect that this time around our plan will be slightly more low key. You can still expect the usual opportunities to network with your fellow attendees before and after the event though
  • Safety: As you’d expect, there will probably be a number of safety measures in place to make all of our attendees feel comfortable on the day – these could be due to current government guidelines, venue restrictions, or measures imposed by Mind the Product. Things are changing by the day but we’ll do our best to keep you updated as things progress
